What does International Women’s Day mean to you?

For me International Women’s Day is a great opportunity for women across the world to reflect & celebrate female achievements! If we have the chance to empower women and create a more gender-balanced world by raising awareness collectively then I am all for it! I believe the future is exciting for women and together we can all play a part in driving a more social, economic, cultural and political world for women.

As a career woman yourself, do you feel you have had to fight harder to get where you are today?

Personally, no as I have been fortunate enough to work in organisations where your skill sets & achievements are recognised more than your gender.

How do you feel the media and creative industry treats women?

I have definitely noticed a shift the last couple of years whereby creative companies are trying harder to combat gender inequality across the work force, although there is definitely a long way to go before we notice an equal playing field.

As a society, we need to continue to encourage people to go beyond stereotypes and recognise the contributions that each individual, male or female, can make to the workplace and to relationships at home.

Media plays a massive part in shaping our pre-determined thoughts. Watching an advert for 30 seconds can connect to large audiences instantly. Therefore, the message portrayed through each ad should empower women.

What would you like to see companies do to ensure more gender parity?

Workplaces need to be more transparent. Openness breeds trust within a company and therefore the more open companies are about paying people fairly, equally and without any bias is essential.

Work places should encourage parents to return to work and offer training courses during their maternity leave. Companies should look to provide child care facilities, child care vouchers and ultimately support mothers by providing a workforce that will promote productivity and flexibility.

What advice would you give to women ambitious for a great career?

I would say don’t let any obstacle stop you from achieving your goals! Nothing is impossible if we have determination, positivity and vision!
