As part of our ‘Future Proofing Talent through Diversity’ programme, Impact were delighted to join Business Class – BITC’s school-business partnership programme.  Collaborating with Pimlico Academy on a three year partnership, we are hugely inspired by their staffing team and the high ambitions they have for a largely disadvantaged and diverse population.

Together with the school, we have developed a mentoring programme with six Impact Volunteer Mentors and twelve Year 9 Students, who have so much talent and potential.  We will be working with the students over the next three years to help build their confidence, raise aspirations and inspire them with opportunities in the creative and media industries.

To kick off the school year our Mentors and Mentees met for their first session and this was not only insightful but also beneficial to hear what the young minds of today are thinking about in terms of their future.

We had a fun and interactive session getting to know each other – the Mentors were initially in the hot seat; being interviewed by our Mentees.  They were interested to know about our work life – what we do and the different industries and roles we recruit for.  They asked how work affects our health, the importance of Math and computers and what help we had along the way in our careers.  We chose adjectives that best described us and how those attributes help us, either in the work place or at school.

What a rewarding session, I’m not sure who got more out of it – the Mentors or Mentees, but we all agreed that we couldn’t wait for the next one!

Impact are passionate and committed to making a difference within our community whilst helping the creative and media industry become more diverse in the future.

More to follow after our next session in November!
